Downtown ACE District
Three blocks that Baytown spent forty years ignoring and the last five rebuilding. Texas Avenue now has Art Alley, a Saturday market on the third weekend, Bocanegra's, the Dirty Daiquiri on North Main, the Little Theater, and Town Square as the civic living room.
Park once. Walk. The lawn is the living room.
The only trick downtown Baytown has: park the car and leave it. Texas Avenue is a few blocks, not a loop. The square is a lawn. Art Alley is a gap between buildings — behind 110–124 West Texas, next to the Art League, not toward Lee College. If you keep the engine on, you will decide there is nothing here, and you will be wrong in a small, fixable way.
This was downtown Goose Creek before 1948. I-10 later pulled the errands north to Garth. What is left is a short historic grid the ACE Council has been turning back into a place you might stay after dark. Town Square at 213 West Texas is the living room: Saturday markets 10–2, Friday open mics in season, Pre-Grito October 2 at 6, ice after Thanksgiving. Sculpture Trail (the 2026 set is up through March 22, 2027) runs the square, Ashbel, and the 100–400 blocks of West Texas. Howdy mural is two minutes off, 123 West Defee.
Eat on the street you parked on. Rooster’s at 6 West Texas, Tuesday–Saturday 11–8, banana pudding, closed Sunday–Monday — do not arrive at 8:45. Bocanegra’s at 214, birria and queso tacos, closed Sunday. Wazabi at 206, spicy tuna nachos, Tuesday–Saturday 5–10. Anchor & Hearth is not here; that kitchen is at the Hyatt on the marina. The Little Theater at 2 East Texas has had a marquee since 1961. Be in the seat fifteen minutes early.
Come Friday evening or Saturday morning if you want the downtown the flyers promise. Come Monday afternoon if you want quiet sculptures and a closed steakhouse — that is also downtown, and it is still worth the walk. Festival nights, park at Lee College. On a normal Saturday the street is enough. This is not Houston. It is a few blocks of people who stayed.
