6,695 listings, built fromOverture Maps. Overture aggregates several upstream datasets; these are the ones that actually contributed to listings here, with the number of listings each touched.

Foursquare's Open Source Places data is distributed under Apache-2.0, which requires its NOTICE to be preserved. Foursquare is credited here as a contributing dataset; its full notice travels with the Overture distribution.

Events

1660 listings, read from published iCalendar feeds belonging to the organisations that run the events — the City of Baytown (including Sterling Municipal Library), the City of Mont Belvieu, Chambers County Commissioners Court, and Baytown United Seventh-day Adventist Church. Each event links back to the organiser's own page.

We do not scrape social media, and we do not copy event descriptions in full. An entry records a title, a time, a venue and a link to the source.

Every outbound link on this site is validated, and a link that returns "not found" is withheld with a note saying so — except social links. Facebook'srobots.txt tells crawlers like ours to stay out, and we honour that, so we have no polite way to find out whether a page is still there.

That means the Facebook and Instagram links on listing pages are passed through unverified. They come from the open map data, they are almost all numeric page ids rather than names, and some will have gone. We show them anyway, because for a small business with no website it is often the only place opening hours and closures get posted — but you should know they have not been checked the way the rest of the site has.

• With a refining capacity of over 560,000 barrels per day, ExxonMobil’s Baytown refinery in Texas is the largest refinery in the United States. And with 970 hectares of intensely industrialized land within its perimeter, this is one of the largest industrial sites in the world. In addition to the refinery, ExxonMobil Chemical operates two petrochemical plants on the site, making 13 billion pounds of chemicals a year for a variety of industries and products. The refinery opened in 1919, by the Humble Oil Company, which later became Exxon. The 4 kilometer wide plant employs over 4,000 people. • Located in Baytown, Texas and chartered on June 18, 1870, with 13 members. Opened its own hall July 7, 1876, donating quarters (1876-1911) to the first public school in east Harris County. On June 24, 1879, initiated an event that still continues-- the annual barbecue giving sense of community to area. In 100 years, Lodge has missed holding only one stated meeting. Through eras of great local expansion, this body has exerted stabilizing influence. Membership has grown steadily. • This congregation was organized in 1844 at the home of early settler Hance Baker, under the direction of the Rev. Robert Alexander, a noted Methodist missionary during Texas' frontier period. with twenty-seven members by its second meeting, the church held worship services in Baker's home until a log sanctuary was built near this site sometime after 1847. The Rev. L. S. Friend served as first pastor of the church, which originally was called Alexander Chapel for its founder. The church building became a gathering place for the small Cedar Bayou community, and camp meetings were held on the grounds each summer. In 1853, the only Sunday School in the district was held here, and the congregation's emphasis on Christian education has continued over the years. By the early 1900s the church had begun providing neighboring communities with Sunday School teachers and literature. Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church continues to reflect the ideals and traditions of its founders. • Ashbel Smith was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1805. Recieved his M.D. degree from Yale in 1828, and came to Texas from South Carolina in 1837. He established a plantation called Headquarters on Goose Creek in 1840 and in 1847 purchased property adjoining his and a plantation home named Evergreen on Tabbs Bay, part of the San Jacinto Estuary. Dr. Smith kept the name Evergreen for the combined estates. This **** acre estate remained his home until his death in 1886. Dr. Smith's active life as physician, statesman, soldier and educator often took him away, but he always returned to Evergreen and his life as a farmer, rancher, scientist and writer. Dr. Ashbel Smith served the Republic of Texas as Surgeon General 1837--1839, Minister to England and France 1842--1843, and Secretary of State 1845: worked to establish the Texas Medical Association 1853 and the Texas State Agricultural Society 1863: represented Harris County in the 11th and 16th Legislatures of the State of Texas: formed the Bayland Guards 1861: was Colonel 2nd Texas Infantry Confederate Army: led the way in founding Prairie View State Normal School 1879, The University of Texas in Austin 1881 and the medical branch in Galveston. Illustrations

52 images in the HERE set are generated illustrations, not photographs of the places they sit beside, and every listing without a photo of its own carries a generated or licensed picture for its category (see the generated-set list below when it is published). Some photos are illustrations until we shoot the real thing; the origin of every file is recorded in the photo manifest.

What we deliberately do not use

• No star ratings or reviews copied from other platforms.
• No photographs we cannot account for. Every image is listed above with its origin, its licence, or an honest statement that we do not know.
• No social media scraping. We never read, copy or republish anything posted on a social network. Where a listing shows a Facebook or Instagram link, that URL came to us in the open map data with the rest of the record; we pass it on and nothing more.
• No email addresses. Our source data contains thousands of business email addresses, many of them personal accounts belonging to sole traders. We hold them for verification and never publish them.
• No rankings. We list what exists. We have no sourced basis for calling one business better than another.
