Housed in the 1930s Goose Creek post office at 220 West Defee, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark a block off Texas Avenue. Karankawa to Humble Oil to the 1948 merger of Baytown, Pelly, and Goose Creek. The city formed a historical committee in 1970; the museum followed. Compact, specific, free, and the right first stop if you like to know where you are.
Hours conflict in public listings: Texas Historical Commission still has Tuesday–Saturday 10–2; more recent local listings say Wednesday–Saturday 10–4. Call (281) 427-8768 before you make it the morning. Pair with Republic of Texas Plaza on North Main if the kids will not last 40 minutes in a post office, or with the ferry and San Jacinto if you want the battle that made the Republic.
